As the photographic exhibition “Japan through Diplomats’ Eyes”
(Honorary President:HIH Princess Takamado) celebrates
its 27th anniversary, Diplomats from various countries have come
to recognize this annual event as a valuable opportunity for cultural exchange.
This exhibition offers Diplomats the chance to share with each other and with Japanese people
the unique perspectives they have on their host country.
It has grown in size and quality over the years and is now an established tradition.
The personal visions of Japan of Diplomats assigned to this magnificent country
will surprise and delight Japanese and foreign viewers alike.
The exhibition starts in Tokyo, then this will travel to Nagoya and Kobe
and possibly other venues as well.
「にっぽん-大使たちの視線」写真展（ 高円宮妃久子殿下名誉総裁）は、
在日の各国外交官がとらえた日本の姿を、
写真芸術を通じて表現するというユニークな試みです。
1998年10月に初めて開催され今年で27年目を迎えます。
毎年共通のテーマに対し、外交官から寄せられた応募作品から展示作品を選定。
それらの中から、高円宮殿下メモリアル賞、最優秀賞がそれぞれ選ばれます。
この写真展は一般の鑑賞者や写真専門の方々からも多大な興味をもたれ、
雑誌や新聞・テレビなどの報道で多くの話題を提供してきました。
外交官は職業上駐在する国の鋭敏な観察者といえます。
在任中に、その国の各地を訪れ人々の生活に触れ、問題を共有し、経験を積みます。
その経験が、各外交官の母国への関心事として写真に投影されるのがこの写真展の特徴といえます。
